Kings rule the day for the Boone group

When John Boone, from Kingwood TX, booked his charter he told us they wanted a nice relaxing day with some fish to have for dinner.

And, that’s what they got … plus some. John shared his trip with his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jim Akers, from Fork Union VA.

We headed straight to the reef in search of yellowtail snapper. We caught a few but lost a lot more to the Goliath grouper and kingfish. So, we switched gears and started bringing the kings into the boat, with the largest coming in at about 25 pounds.

When we had enough of that action, I came inshore and we fished the patches, where the crew added some delicious porgy to their catch.

They ate their yellowtail and porgy at Porky’s Bayside BBQ that night, and I’m smoking their king mackerel for them. They ended up with 21 pounds of smoker kingfish – yum!

Nice afternoon on the water for the O’Connell clan

They read our reviews on TripAdvisor and decided SeaSquared was the charter boat for them.

Bill and Irma O’Connell and their kids, Dillon and Devon, from Acworth GA, had a nice afternoon fishing in Hawk Channel just offshore from Marathon Florida Keys.

They caught a bunch of lane and mangrove snapper, delicious hogfish and porgy and a bonus Florida pompano.

They had such a good time, they posted their own review on TripAdvisor and Bill and Dillon booked a tarpon trip for May.

Monster amberjack for 10 year-old from the UK!

During a four-week holiday in Marathon Florida Keys, Dr. Michael Scott treated his son, Luke, to a day of fishing with SeaSquared Charters.

The goal for today was to raise some sailfish. A couple of hours into it with no action, we decided to change strategy and head to the wrecks. Just as we were moving on, a sail free-jumped right at the side of the boat! No landing, but Mike and Luke at least got to see one up close.

We dropped on a wreck and the guys caught two very large mutton snapper. I then noticed a strained look on Luke’s face indicating he had something really big on his line. He did a great job wrestling the beast to the boat and only needed a little assistance at the end, when he was rewarded with an 80-pound amberjack!

To finish off the day, we stopped on a patch reef and added porgy to the day’s catch.

The amberjack will be smoked and packaged for the Scott family to enjoy back home in Cranleigh England.

Boat record hogfish catch

The Keator family, from Wellesley, didn’t quite know what they were in for when they booked their charter.

Matt and Ginny Keator and their kids, Carson, Amanda and Ryan, enjoyed their Christmas vacation at Tranquility Bay Resort in Marathon Florida Keys and included a half day of fishing with SeaSquared Charters.

If you’ve been reading recent fishing reports, you know we’ve been on the hogfish hot and heavy. But, today we set a boat record.

We have caught limits of hogfish before, but not with five anglers aboard. Five anglers equals a limit of 25 hogfish! That is the mother lode of hogfish!

They took just two filled fish with them to have for dinner at Sunset Grille and Raw Bar, with an awesome view of the famous Florida Keys sunset. We are packing, freezing and shipping the rest home for them to share with friends.

Great haul for the Perry group from Illinois

One of the greatest aspects of fishing in Marathon Florida Keys is the tremendous variety you can catch in a single outing!

Mike Perry, his wife Roberta, their girls Anna and Anwyn, and family friend Joe Savor – all from Illinois – were treated to the full array of Florida Keys reef fish.

In their three-quarter day charter, the group caught 10 hogfish, including a monster 5-pounder landed by Roberta.

They also caught 3 Spanish mackerel, 2 big mutton snapper, a red grouper, a gag grouper and some porgy.

They took some of their fish with them to eat right away, but we packaged, froze and shipped the bulk of it to them in New Lenox IL.

At SeaSquared Charters, we’re proud to be Number One for family fun fishing in Marathon. And, Jason’s attention to the junior anglers is a big part of all that …

Seeing their big smiles as they successfully reel in a fish is well worth the extra effort we put in …

Fine fishing holiday for the extended Robinson clan

Snappers and mackerel come back to the dock for this family.

Peter Robinson and his son, Jamie, from the UK, along with Peter’s son-in-law and grandson, Jamie and Tyler Schulton, from Kentucky, shared a guys’ day on the water during their Christmas holiday in Marathon Florida Keys.

We started the day by fishing near the Seven Mile Bridge, where the crew made short order of putting 20 good size mangrove snapper and three yellowtail snapper in the fish box. They released a few short black and gag grouper.

We moved on to a Bay wreck to see what was lingering there. The guys landed more snapper along with a load of Spanish and cero mackerel.

They planned to cook their catch using our Super Simple Snapper recipe back at their rental house at Sombrero Beach. Can’t wait to hear how it turned out!

First time is a great time!

Derek Koleas, from St. Charles MO, had never done any fishing before his trip with the SeaSquared Charters crew!

But, you never would have known it! Derek was a quick study and set to catching right off the bat.

We fished near the Seven Mile Bridge, and Derek caught his limit of mangrove snapper in the four-pound class and 14- to 15-inch yellowtail snapper. He added a cero mackerel to the mix just for fun.

Derek must have released about 75 more snapper along with some short grouper.

He and his family, who were staying in the lovely Conch Key Cottages, planned to have his fish cooked at one of our many fine restaurants in Marathon.

Good job Derek!

Happy Birthday Reeve!

The Callen family, from Oswego NY, help Reeve celebrate his 18th birthday aboard SeaSquared Charters!

We postponed their trip from Thursday due to the winds, and I’m sure glad we did! Dan, Kris, Hilary and Reeve had an awesome Christmas Eve fishing adventure in the waters near the Seven Mile Bridge.

They caught their limit of large mangrove snapper, including a whopping five-pounder that Reeve landed. They added 10 good size yellowtail snapper and three cero mackerel to the fish box before calling it a day.

Fabulous fishing … with bonus views of the Seven Mile Bridge

Amazing catch in just a half day!

Glenn and Karen Buric, along with their girls, Alexandra and Julia, from Glencoe IL, had a great time fishing with the SeaSquared crew during their Christmas vacation.

We fished at the Seven Mile Bridge and some channel humps so the kids could enjoy the great variety of fish we have here in Marathon Florida Keys.

The catching was awesome with a limit of mangrove snapper plus a 32-inch. 20-pound gag grouper and a 30-inch cobia. Pretty good in just a four-hour trip!

Family fun fishing for the Conely clan

Smiles all around back at the dock!

Jim and Kathleen Conely, their kids, Avery, Everett and Cullen, and Kathleen’s Mom, Donna O’Hara – all from Michigan – had a blast on a half day of fishing with the SeaSquared crew.

It’s been a bit windy, so we’ve been fishing near the Seven Mile Bridge the last couple of days. This gang put together a great catch of 30 mangrove snapper along with a bunch of porgy.

After I cleaned their fish, we bagged it up for Donna to take to her vacation place in Key West for the family to feast on over the holidays.

It’s all about the kids when we have families aboard SeaSquared Charters …
